The sun is becoming a little less present these days. It’s getting darker. So many shades of black in the beer corner at the moment. Winter seasonals and brews as dark as the cold night air are inundating our shelves. This chill at this time of year, as brief as it is in Brissy, lends itself to more viscous, more malted, more stouty beers. And we are excited!
And nothing signifies the start of the dark more than the release of Stone and Wood’s obsidius Stone Beer. By far the most opaque beer that the Byron mob brew, Stone Beer is a woodfired porter that is toasty, a little choccy and bit boozy. Don’t fret if you are devoutly S+W but haven’t found the darkside of the brewniverse. Lovers of Cloud Catcher, Jasper Ale and the legendary Pacific Ale will still find this very accessible. Porter aficionados will drool at the humble yet precise execution.
The Stoner’s Brisbane compadre Hugh will be here this SATURDAY arvo from 2pm-5pm pouring luscious black liquid into your tasting glass. For many, this will be a chance to have a sneak peek at the beer they were on their way into the store to purchase anyway. But for those still wary of beers that absorb more light than they emit, the arvo will be a great opportunity to be tempted by this once a year release.
