Over the past week five panels of wine judges have been sorting through almost three thousand Australian wines for the Royal Queensland Wine Show. It was quite a task, made a little more challenging by the incessant din of the construction that is transforming the show grounds.
The results won’t be released for another week, but I’ll be keen to see the identity of two brilliant chardonnay’s, a pair of Grenache blends, a smoking-hot tempranillo and two subtly different but quite extraordinary gewürztraminers. We await with baited breath …
PJ Charteris is the Chief Judge. PJ has a very glossy CV that includes a 15 year stint at Brokenwood. These days he and partner, Christina Pattison, are focused on Charteris Wines and its two vineyards at Bannockburn in the heart of Central Otago.
PJ is back in Brisbane next week to be pulled out of the hat for the RQWS presentation, and I’ve talked him in to hosting a tasting of Charteris wines at Craft on Thursday evening 2nd July!
